Our story begins with the fertile soils and mild, oceanic climate of Southern Ireland, recognised as one of the best places in the world to grow malting barley.
Our malting barley is non-GMO and sourced from contracted growers, principally in the South East of Ireland. It is subsequently ‘malted’ in Cork, a process which involves steeping, germinating and kilning to release the enzymes while preserving the natural goodness and flavours of the grain.
Once malted, our barley is milled, mashed, fermented and four times copper pot distilled in West Cork. The end result is a wonderfully smooth and complex spirit base to distill our gin.
The term ‘Single Malt’ refers to a spirit distilled in a single distillery using a pot still distillation process and made from a mash of malted barley.
Ornabrak Single Malt Gin is one of a small number of gins internationally which distils its own base spirit, and from local ingredients. Our farm to bottle approach is a tribute to Ireland’s terroir and distillation heritage.
